As a third-party observer, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) will participate in the three-day synchronized Nilgiri Tahr census. Commencing on April 29, this census represents the first-ever coordinated attempt to estimate the population of the Nilgiri Tahr. Partner organisations include AIWC, WII, and WWF-India. In 2022, the government of Tamil Nadu initiated Project Nilgiri Tahr with the objective of safeguarding and perpetuating the species.
