Near Ulundurpet, Tamil Nadu, archaeologists discovered an eighth-century Kotravai sculpture from the Pallava period. Northern Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana were ruled by the Pallava Dynasty, a notable South Indian power that ruled from the third to the ninth century. The Pallavas were patrons of literature, music, and painting and were well-known for their support of Buddhism, Jainism, and Brahminical faith. Their ancestors are the Andhra Satavahanas, who in the fourth century CE acquired autonomy and made Kanchipuram their capital.
