Sixteen-year-old Jiya Rai from Mumbai became the youngest and fastest para swimmer to cross the English Channel, swimming 34 kilometers in 17 hours and 25 minutes on July 28-29, 2024. Jiya, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder and is the daughter of an Indian Navy personnel, also holds the record for crossing the Palk Strait. The English Channel separates England from France, first swum by Captain Matthew Webb in 1875.
