Melanochlamys Droupadi, a new species of head-shield sea slug, has been discovered by Zoological Survey of India researchers along the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha. It is a small invertebrate, up to 7 mm in size, with a ruby red spot and a brownish-black body. The hermaphrodite slug, which lives on damp sandy beaches, creates a protective mucus sheath around itself and moves beneath the sand, creating a turtle-like trail. Mollusks called sea slugs can be found in a variety of marine environments, with 18 species recognized worldwide.
