The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) reported that in December 2022, India's unemployment rate rose to a 16-month high of 8.3 percent. According to CMIE, the rise in the labor force participation rate played a role in the increase. In December, the unemployment rate in urban areas rose to 10.09 percent, while it was slightly lower in rural areas at 7.44 percent. Haryana had the highest unemployment rate of all the states, at 37.4 percent, followed by Rajasthan (28.5 percent) and Delhi (20.8%).
